Superb Short Comport stand and Dessert Plate by E J Ridgway

  • Beautiful ovoid pedestal short comport standĀ  with molded relief scroll handles 11.5-inches long 9.25-inch wide and 3-inch tall decorators pattern ref 9630
  • Central stand depression, see video.
  • 9-1/8th-inch diameter dessert plate impressed ALBA and decorators mark 9230
  • Manufactured by E J Ridgway at the Church works Hanley, Stoke-upon-Trent EnglandĀ  before 1873
  • The border is detailed with burnt umber enamel
  • The central portion is well-filled with a repeatingĀ  blockwork imageĀ 
  • ALBA is thought to reference the mold shapes and not the pattern applied
  • Some antique glaze ware and light crazing with minor stainingĀ  on the underside and shown and as expected for the ageĀ 
  • Absolutely stunning.
  • Rare surviving example or a 19th Century Ridgway Dessert service
  • Pattern 9231 is referenced in the Ridgway pattern archive as is an almost matching design and colour way.
