Superb large Copeland and Garrett Byron Views Interlachen Soup bowl
- Beautiful largeĀ 10-1/8th-inch English Wide Rim Soup Bowl or plate in the pattern Interlachen
- Manufactured by Copeland and Garrett in Stoke, Staffordshire, with Late Spode impress and stamp marks
- The source print, "Interlachen" dates from 1833 from Finden's Landscape and Portrait Illustrations to the Life of Lord Byron. More commonly spelled Interlaken, literally "between the lakes" of Thun and Brienz, this beautiful area in the canton of Bern has been a tourist destination since about 1800. It lies at the base of the Eiger, the Moench, and the Jungfrau mountains. Lord Byron visited in 1816, calling the town "a dream", and setting his play "Manfred" in Unspunnen Castle nearby.
- The border is decorated in polychrome enamels infill not quite cracked ice or fish-scale with scroll-like floral inner and outer rim infill.
- The central portion is well-filled with the blockwork image which extends to the inner scroll border
- Date range 1833-1847
- Some antique glaze ware and light crazing with minor staining as expected for the ageĀ
- Absolutely stunning.
